Viper-thon!

What is up my little book nerds and WHOAH its been a while. Not quite sure what happened really. One day, you’re extolling the virtues of a sci-fi fantasy satirical parody that made me laugh until banana milk shot out my nose, the next there isn’t a post for almost SIX MONTHS?! WHAT?!

I promise I won’t leave you as long next time, but for now, ooooooooh do I have some exciting news for you!

If you didn’t know, I am low key* obsessed with The Isles of Storm and Sorrow series by Bex Hogan (*read, COMPLETELY OBSESSED even though for some bizarre reason I’ve never talked about them on here… that will change), which so far is Viper and Venom, and follows the story of a young girl, Marianne, whose father is the feared and vicious Viper, leader of the anti-piracy arm of the navy (or he was before he decided he’d be better off being a pirate himself), but she wants to be a healer. Her choice is a simple one, either become the Viper-in-waiting that is just as cut-throat as her father, or be killed. But what if there’s a third option that all revolves around a forgotten kingdo, the last heir to the Royal bloodline, and the magic that comes with that role… The third and final book in the series, Vulture, is about to come out in, like, a month. Less. I’m not sure, my brain is frazzled from excitement. So, in honour of this, I’ve teamed up with three more of your favourite bloggers (and some of my best friends) Steph, Charlotte, and Sarah, and collaborated with the Viper Queen herself, Bex, to create [pause for dramatic effect even though it’s literally the title of the post…]

VIPER-THON

[wait for cheering to finish, assist anyone thats fainted due to the excitement] Thats right nerds, We’re doing a Viper themed readathon! Viper-thon will run for the entirety of April and the goal is very simple: Prove you’re worthy of joining the crew of the Maiden as the parrot (who, to be honest, will probably be eaten by a hungry Snake), or work your way up the ranks to become the Viper themselves feared by all and afraid of none, all by collecting a series of items from around the Twelve Isles. But how do you collect these items I hear you cry?! Well, that too is easy! You simply have to read a book that fulfils one or more of the prompts for the different islands, and when you’re done, you get the item!

The incredibly talented and glorious Sarah has put together a guide of how to take part in the readathon, along with all the prompts, and a map created by the lovely and creative Charlotte is in there too, and you can download the whole thing here. If you’re a story graph user, Charlotte has put together an event page here, so feel free to join on there and you can see how you stack up to the rest of the crew!

So what do you think? Want to join the crew of the Maiden, become a Snake, or maybe even the Viper, and sail the high seas fighting strange water dragons, creepy old wizards, and maybe even falling in love with the sweet cinnamon roll of a first mate with eyes like sea glass and arms that are strong enough to hold you until the pain goes away… I mean… Yeah, so, like I said, Viper-thon will be running throughout April, and to make it a bit more fun, you can join us over on the Official Viper-thon Twitter where we’ll be sharing what we’re reading, hosting some sprints to help you climb the ranks (every Sunday from 6-7pm), or just sob together over whats happening in our books (you all know I’m a crier, so believe me, this is going to be crazy). Make sure to tag your posts with #Viperthon and #StormAndSorrow so we can see all your excellent posts.

I can’t wait to see how many new Viper’s climb the ranks, maybe we’ll have a fleet of bookish pirates by the end of the month, all emotionally damaged by Bex, and all ready to go and save the world. Until then, keep your eyes peeled for further announcements, make sure you’ve hoisted those colours to show your Snake pride, and good luck!

As ever, if you want to chat books or anything at all, you can get me on twitter or instagram, and I’ll see you guys next time!
