Toot or Boot

I’m back with another set of quick review my lovely book nerds. This time, it’s four of the books I’ve read recently that all fit in the theme of “Oooh mystical mystery!” As ever, if I enjoyed it, it gets a Toot and if I didn’t rate it, it gets a boot. Lets get started!

The Unadoptables – Hana Tooke

Five orphans, left in a hideous orphanage in Amsterdam, each with something that makes them different. Not desirable as an adoptee. Unwanted. I fell in love with these five children, and their resilience in the face of ridiculous odds. What I wouldn’t give to have been able to go to their show!

TOOT

The House of Hidden Wonders – Sharon Gosling

Living on the streets of Victioran Edinburgh, you have to be tough, smart, and resourceful. Zinnie and her sisters are all of these things, but when a ghost makes an appearance, they need to use all their smarts to work out whats going on… This was a fantastic historical mystery, I loved the different threads of storylines woven throughout, especially the appearances of a young Arthur Conan Doyle, and the fabulousness of Lady Sarah.

TOOT

Hello Now – Jenny Valentine

Someone far smarter than I once said that through love, all things are possible. That is definitely the vibe of this story of two boys. When we first meet Jude, he’s moving to the seaside with his mum, to a house that someone else lives in the middle floors already and won’t move out. Then he meets Novo, and everything changes. Literally. This is a love story that you have to wrap your head around, that shows what magic could be. Whilst I really enjoyed it, it took me a while to get into, and I had to keep going back to reread sections.

TOOT (but a soft toot)

So, just a few today but those were my Top Toots of books I’ve read recently. I definitely need to do some more of these fast little reviews. If you have any ideas for a theme, let me know in the comments and I’ll see what I can do. Stay safe, book nerds!
